The 85th Academy Awards ceremony was held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California. Comedian Seth MacFarlane hosted the event. The ceremony's theme, "Music in Film," was showcased throughout the night with performances by Adele and Barbra Streisand. The most memorable moment of the night was when first-time nominee Jennifer Lawrence won "Best Actress" for her role in Silver Linings Playbook. As she made her way up to accept her award, she famously tripped on her dress. Another highlight was Ang Lee winning "Best Director" for Life of Pi after being nominated twice without winning.
Argo, a movie based on the true story of the 1979 Iran hostage crisis during President Carter's administration, was the biggest winner of the night, taking home three awards, including "Best Picture." Daniel Day-Lewis became one of five actors to win three Oscars after taking home "Best Actor" for his portrayal of Abraham Lincoln in Lincoln. Anne Hathaway received her first Oscar for "Best Supporting Actress" in Les Misérables.
