The 90th Academy Awards were held on March 4, 2018, and hosted by Jimmy Kimmel for the second consecutive year. "The Shape of Water" had thirteen nominations and won "Best Picture," "Best Director" for Guillermo del Toro, and several other categories. "Dunkirk" followed, earning eight nominations and winning in categories such as "Best Film Editing" and "Sound Mixing." Gary Oldman won "Best Actor" for his portrayal of Winston Churchill in "Darkest Hour," while Frances McDormand's performance in "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri" earned her the "Best Actress" award. Her speech on equality in Hollywood marked the ceremony.
Supporting roles were acknowledged to Sam Rockwell for the same film as McDormand, and to Allison Janney for her role in "I, Tonya." Jordan Peele won "Best Original Screenplay" for "Get Out," making him the first African American to win in this category.
The stage, designed by Derek McLane, was inspired by the award-winning movie "Amadeus." Included in the design were six Amadeus mirror units that moved across the stage throughout the night.
