Moreno is best known as Anita in "West Side Story" (1961), a role that earned her an Oscar for "Best Supporting Actress," making her the first Latina actress to win the honor. She also appeared on the children's shows Sesame Street and The Electric Company. In addition to her career in showbiz, Moreno is also an advocate for Latino representation and a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the National Medal of Arts, the highest civilian and artistic awards bestowed by the United States.
