Stefano Canturi

Mattel commissioned Australian fine jewelry designer Stefano Canturi to create a finger-wide ‘Cubism-style’ neckpiece and a tiny matching ring using three carats of white diamonds and a 1-carat Australian Argyle pink diamond, a rare emerald-cut stone. Only one Barbie Pink Diamond doll was ever produced.

The doll was auctioned off for US$ 302,500 at Christie's in New York, and the proceeds went to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Mattel sent the bejeweled doll on a whirlwind tour to London, Geneva, and Hong Kong before returning her to New York for the auction.

Canturi's Barbie is the highest valued, followed by the 1999 De Beers doll.
