The idea of putting Coca-Cola in cans was tested before World War II, but material shortages during the war halted further development. It wasn’t until 1960 that Coca-Cola was officially introduced in 12-ounce cans to the U.S. public. Early can graphics featured the iconic contour bottle to help consumers identify the product inside as the same Coca-Cola they knew from glass bottles.
