The Coca-Cola bottle became a recurring symbol in modern art, starting in the 1940s. Although Andy Warhol is the name most famously linked with the Coke bottle, the first widely recognized artist to incorporate it into a painting was Salvador Dalí. In his 1943 work, Poetry in America, Dalí included the bottle as a subtle reference to American consumer culture.
