John Stith Pemberton

John Stith Pemberton was a pharmacist, entrepreneur, and Confederate veteran who is best known as the creator of the original formula for Coca-Cola.  Born on July 8, 1831, in Knoxville, Georgia, Pemberton was well-educated and went on to study medicine, creating various medicinal tonics and remedies, including his most famous invention.  He served as a lieutenant colonel in the Confederate Army during the American Civil War, and was wounded in the Battle of Columbus, Georgia,…
