Anna Wintour is a British-American fashion editor born in London in 1949. She joined Harper's Bazaar as a junior editor in New York in 1975, became creative director of American Vogue in 1983, and served as editor-in-chief of British Vogue from 1985 to 1987. In 1988 she returned to New York as editor-in-chief of American Vogue a position she continues to hold, and she has also served as global chief content officer and artistic director of Condé Nast. She is a Trustee of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and has co-chaired the Costume Institute's annual benefit, the Met Gala, since 1995. In January 2014 the museum announced a $10 million gift arranged by Wintour and named the Costume Institute's galleries the Anna Wintour Costume Center, which opened with the exhibition Charles James: Beyond Fashion in May 2014.
