Taylor Swift made her official debut as a film director with "All Too Well: The Short Film," released in November 2021. Written and directed by Taylor, the project was based on the extended 10-minute version of her song “All Too Well”, featured in “Red (Taylor’s Version)”.

The short film starred actors Sadie Sink and Dylan O’Brien and premiered at a special event at the AMC Lincoln Square Theater in New York City, followed by screenings at film festivals, including the Tribeca Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), in 2022.

Celebrated for its storytelling and cinematography, the film further established her presence in the filmmaking world. Building on this, she later announced that she would make her feature-length directorial debut with an original screenplay she wrote, in partnership with Searchlight Pictures, a studio known for multiple Oscar-winning films.
