Gabby Douglas made history as the first woman of color to secure the Olympic gold medal in the gymnastics individual all-around competition. Her achievements have been immortalized through a Barbie doll created in her honor as part of the Sheroes collection, which pays tribute to women who have excelled in their respective fields, including Misty Copeland and Ava DuVernay. Douglas worked closely with Mattel to ensure that every aspect, from her distinctive hair texture to her incredible flexibility, was meticulously captured. While a custom-made doll was initially crafted in 2016, it was not until May 17, 2017, that Mattel made it available nationwide.

During the 2012 Summer Olympics, Douglas, at the age of 21, clinched two gold medals, propelling her to further success when she returned to the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, where she claimed her third gold medal.
