The Black Label Sally Ride Barbie, designed by Carlyle Nuera, honors the physicist selected as part of NASA's astronaut program to join the first group of women astronauts in 1978. The first astronaut Barbie was released in 1965. Ride joins other astronauts who received their own dolls, such as Italian astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti, cosmonaut Anna Kikina, Katia Echazarreta, and Ellen Ochoa. The doll joins a list of women honored in the Barbie Inspiring Women series, including singers Celia Cruz and Ella Fitzgerald, figure skater Kristi Yamaguchi, tennis champions Venus Williams and Billie Jean King, and other athletes such as Sue Bird.
