The idea to bottle Coca-Cola came from Joseph A. Biedenharn, a Vicksburg businessman and owner of the Biedenharn Candy Company. Recognizing the potential to expand Coca-Cola’s reach beyond soda fountains, Biedenharn began bottling the beverage in his candy store using glass Hutchinson bottles, which were commonly sealed with rubber stoppers. Though relatively simple, this method effectively preserved the drink’s carbonation and flavor, a key concern at the time.
