The 2013 Costume Institute exhibition "PUNK: Chaos to Couture," which followed the Met Gala, aimed to explore the influence of punk on high fashion, from the movement's birth in the early 1970s to its impact on fashion today. There was a showcase of approximately one hundred designs for both men and women, featuring original punk garments and recent, directional fashion, to demonstrate how haute couture and ready-to-wear borrow punk's visual symbols.
