Your Song Lyrics

The single "Your Song" was released in 1970 by DJM Records in the UK, where John and Taupin were staff songwriters, and by Uni Records in the United States as the B-side of "Take Me To The Pilot." Bernie Taupin wrote the lyrics over breakfast at Elton's parents' house, and Elton composed the music in about 20 minutes. The original draft, with coffee stains, was sold by Bonhams for US$237,575 in December 2019.

The song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1998 and has been covered by several artists, including Rod Stewart, Lady Gaga, Ewan McGregor in the 2001 musical film "Moulin Rouge," and Taron Egerton in the 2019 film "Rocketman."
